Obituary – Matthew Scott Walsh

Matthew Scott Walsh passed peacefully away of natural causes and into the arms of angels at home on Sunday June 18, 2024 in Lock Haven, PA, after a lengthy hospitalization at Abington Hospital.

Matt was born February 16, 1962 to Margaret (Peg) Ann (Morton) Walsh and Michael J. Walsh at Einstein Hospital in Philadelphia.  He was a lifelong resident of Willow Grove, PA who had recently retired to the family farm in Lock Haven.

Matt attended Woodlawn Elementary and Upper Moreland Junior & Senior High School, class of 1980.

Joining his father in the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT), Matt completed his apprenticeship and learned his life-long trade.  After leaving the union, Matt earned a reputation as a skilled tradesman and talented master painter who worked in Willow Grove and the Philadelphia area for nearly 45 years.

Matt loved music and was a gifted musician who along with his father, studied the bagpipes under local pipe band leader and legend Tom Hall.  In the late 1970’s Matt and his father were both members of the Ulster Scottish Pipe Band and marched with the band at numerous events. Matt and his father were also former members of the MacSwiney Club in Jenkintown, PA.

Matt married Pam Ingram on May 25, 1998, with whom he had a child, Hansen Walsh.

Matt was very mechanically inclined and took the lead in helping restore a WWII 1942 Willys Jeep to show-quality condition.  He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast who enjoyed riding dirt bikes in his youth and later owned a Harley-Davidson Soft Tail.  Matt was a member of the NRA, who loved the outdoors, particularly fishing with his father and uncles in his youth.  Throughout his life, Matt loved animals, and took great care of his cat Buddy.

Matt was an independent thinker who lived life on his own terms. He was known for being a hard worker with a big heart and great sense of humor.  He loved to talk and easily made many lifelong friends.  Matt helped care for his mother who had dementia the last years of her life.

His mother, Margaret (Morton) Walsh, Lock Haven, and his father Michael J. Walsh, Bolton, England, predeceased him.  Matt is survived by his sister Margo Gruber Meeker (Brett), child Hansen Walsh, former wife Pam Ingram Walsh, cousins Melinda Foley Musante and John Morton.

In a private service, Matt will be interred with his parents at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Philadelphia.

To honor Matt’s memory, the family request donations be made in his name to your local animal shelter.
