52nd Annual Cross Fork Snake Hunt: A Community Tradition

CROSS FORK- Mark your calendars for June 29 and 30, 2024, as Cross Fork, PA, comes alive with the 52nd Annual Cross Fork Snake Hunt. This event promises an exciting weekend filled with food, live music, educational activities, and community fun, all in support of the Kettle Creek Hose Company #1.

Located at 7 Firehouse Lane, the Snake Hunt weekend kicks off with live music by the North Mountain Ramblers at Jeff’s Bar on both Friday and Saturday nights. The festivities begin in earnest on June 28 at 6:00 PM with snake hunt registration at the Pit Area.

Weekend Highlights

Saturday, June 29:

  • 7:00 AM: Breakfast served at the Fire Hall until 10:00 AM, w/ snake hunt registration also starting at 7:00 AM.
  • 9:00 AM: Vendors open their stalls, offering a variety of goods and services.
  • 10:00 AM: The Kid’s Pit opens, providing hands-on educational opportunities for children to handle non-venomous snakes and participate in a Q&A session.
  • 10:30 AM: The KCHC Food Tent and Beer Tent open, along with a 50/50 raffle.
  • 11:00 AM: Enjoy a delicious Chicken BBQ Dinner in the Fire Hall Social Room and live music by the North Mountain Ramblers from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
  • 12:00 PM: The Double Elimination Horseshoe Tournament begins.
  • 3:00 PM: Snakes must be turned in for Saturday’s trophies, with the awards ceremony at 5:00 PM.

Sunday, June 30:

  • 7:00 AM: Breakfast at the Fire Hall until 10:00 AM, with the Snake Pit opening simultaneously.
  • 9:00 AM: Vendors open.
  • 10:00 AM: The Kid’s Pit opens again for more educational fun.
  • 11:00 AM: Another round of the KCHC Chicken BBQ Dinner is served until gone.
  • 2:00 PM: Raffle drawings, including the 50/50 raffle and $5,000 and $10,000 raffles, will take place.
  • 3:00 PM: Announcement of the Snake Hunt winners.
  • 4:00 PM: The event concludes, with an invitation to return in June 2025.

Important Information

To participate in the Rattlesnake Hunt, hunters must have a valid Venomous Snake Hunt Permit from the PA Fish Commission and a Pennsylvania Fishing License. This is a catch-and-release event, and all hunters must register at hunt headquarters before beginning their hunt.
