Miss Bucktail Alexis Lowery to compete at Laurel Festival
The highlight of the 82nd Annual Pennsylvania State Laurel Festival in Wellsboro is the coronation of the 2024 Laurel Queen this Saturday, June 15.
While in Wellsboro, the 30 Laurel Queen candidates will enjoy a full weekend of activities. Our local Bucktail representative this year is:
Miss Bucktail Alexis Lowery
Miss Alexis Lowery is representing Bucktail Area High School and her community as a Pennsylvania Laurel Queen candidate.
She is the daughter of Karen and Michael Lowery of Westport.
During her four years of high school, Miss Lowery played several sports: she was the right fielder for the varsity softball team; the forward for the basketball team; and a member of the tennis team. In her freshman and sophomore years, she played doubles for the tennis team; in her junior year, she was the number two singles player, and advanced to be the number one singles player her senior year Throughout high school, Alexis was also a member of the Environmental Club, the Yearbook Club, and was active in Student Council. As a sophomore and junior, she was a member of the Art Club.
As a freshman, Miss Lowery achieved Honor Roll. For her sophomore, junior, and senior years, she made High Honor Roll.
As a freshman, sophomore, and junior, she was named to the 2nd Team All Star for District IV as a right fielder in softball and as a senior was all conference 1st team outfielder. As a sophomore, junior, and senior, Alexis volunteered for two big events in her community, “A Little Magic in the Air” and the Heritage Park Haunted House. She helped with set up for both and was a costumed actor for the Haunted House She also volunteered as a sophomore and senior at the concession stand for the junior high boys’ baseball team. She volunteered in her senior year, building beds for children in need, with the Lock Haven chapter of “Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Miss Lowery worked summers through high school. As a freshman, she worked serving ice cream at the Lion’s Den. As a sophomore, junior, and senior, she facilitated activities for young children with the Parks and Recreation programs. She was inducted into the National Honor Society in her senior year.
Alexis enjoys sports, spending time outside, and visiting restaurants.
This fall, she will attend Lock Haven University to major in Elementary Education. She plans to have a career as an elementary education teacher.
