LOCK HAVEN — A majority of Lock Haven City Council has selected council member Jonathon Bravard as the city’s interim mayor.

The vote Monday night was 4-2 to elevate Bravard to the mayor’s seat in the wake of former mayor Rick Vilello’s resignation earlier this month to accept a position in the Wolf administration in Harrisburg.

Council vice-chairman Steve Stevenson, who chaired the Monday meeting, said he doubted council could get a majority vote on an interim choice and suggested instead the matter be turned over to Clinton County President Judge Craig Miller to select a replacement.

During discussion it was noted that Stevenson, fellow Democrat Bill Baney and Republican Rick Conklin, all council members, are all ballot candidates seeking to be elected mayor this year. Council member Machell Alexander-Bressler, stating that council should make the interim choice, nominated Bravard, a motion seconded by Ted Forbes.

Bravard was approved on a 4-2 vote, Alexander-Bressler, Forbes, Bravard and Baney voting yes, Conklin and Stevenson voting no.

Next step will be Bravard’s swearing-in and council will begin the process of filling his seat on council. Bravard meanwhile will be on the ballot in May seeking a Democratic nomination for re-election to council.
