The Phoenix outslug the Bucks in a 24-7 win

FARWELL – The Sugar Valley Rural Charter School pounded out 18 hits against five Bucktail pitchers enroute to a 24-7 win in a 5-inning ten-run rule contest on Tuesday afternoon. It was the Phoenix’s second win in a week over the Bucks, as they had defeated the Bucks 12-0 in a game last week. 

The Phoenix started with a four run first inning and then followed with six runs in the second, two runs in the third, five runs in the fourth and then tacked on seven runs in the fifth inning. The Bucks tallied a run in the first, two in the second and third innings and then single runs in the fourth and fifth innings. 

Lincoln Breon led the Phoenix attack with four hits, while Lance Winchester added three hits. Cayden Weaver, Laydon Bryan, Gage Lucas and Jarren McCloskey had two hits apiece. Dakota Jodun, Grayson Hastings and Bryer Martin all added one hit apiece, while Martin reached five times and scored five runs. Martin and Winchester had one triple each, while Weaver, Breon, Bryan and McCloskey added one double apiece. 

Weaver got his second mound win over the Bucks in the last week, as he went all five innings for the mound win. Weaver allowed seven runs on 10 Bucktail hits, while fanning two batters and walking two. The Phoenix defense committed just two errors behind Weaver. 

Bucktail 10 hit attack was led by freshman Keller Friese who went 3 for 3, one hit being a double. Brett Mason and Xander Shearer both had two hits apiece for the Bucks, while Kyler Friese, Ethan Kalafut and Austin Mosher all had one hit apiece. 

Tyler Hillyer started on the mound for the Bucks, as he was followed by Kyler Friese, Kalafut, Shearer and Johnny Green. The five pitchers combined to surrender the 24 runs on 18 hits, 7 walks, 4 hit batters and recorded three strikeouts. The Buck defense committed six errors behind them. 

The win sets the Phoenix record at 2-14 on the season, as they will travel to Muncy for a 4:30 pm game on Wednesday afternoon and then to Northeast Bradford for a Saturday game with a 10:00 am start time. 

The Bucks are also now 2-14 on the season and they travel to Montgomery on Wednesday afternoon and they host the Muncy Indians on Friday afternoon, both games have 4:30 pm start times.
