Almost 1/3 of county voters go to the polls

LOCK HAVEN – It was primary day in Clinton County on Tuesday, and one that seems a bit early as compared to years past.

The warmer weather did not keep people away from the polls today, but as is usual when it comes to the primary, there was a lower-than-November voter turnout rate. County turnout was at 30.53% today, with democrats taking a slight lead in turnout at 31.05% and republicans at 30.26%

Of the 18,999 registered voters in Clinton County, there are nearly twice as many republicans (12,536) as democrats (6,463). Tonight, 5,801 ballots were cast for democrat and republican offices.

County voters cast 3,321 ballots for Republican former President Donald Trump and 1,609 for sitting President Joe Biden. Voters also cast more votes for Republican Senator McCormick (3,384) over incumbent senator Bob Casey (1,910). McCormick won the Republican nomination in the state. Both advance to the general election in November.

Republican Dave Sunday was the Attorney General of choice in the county, gathering 2,305 votes over Democrat Eugene Depasquale who was the highest vote-getter for the Democrats. It was reported Tuesday night that he also received the Republican Nomination for Attorney General in the state.

In the 15th congressional district, Glenn “GT” Thompson took 3,515 votes in the county as compared to political newcomer Zach Womer taking 1,852.

For the 76th district, sitting State Representative Stephanie Borowicz walked off with 3,518 votes in the county and two-time Democratic challenger Denise Maris with 1,876.

Current State Treasurer Republican Stacy Garrity came out on top in the county with 3,464 votes, with Democratic candidates Erin McClelland and Ryan Bizzarro gathering 1,115 and 745, respectively. McClelland won the Democratic primary for Treasurer.

Cris Dush, sitting state senator for the 25th district, has retained his seat, uncontested, with 3,404 votes.

For state Auditor General, Republican Tim DeFoor walked away with the Republican nomination and 3,318 votes over Democratic nominee Malcolm Kenyatta with 856 votes in the county. Kenyatta won the Democratic nomination Tuesday night.

County voters also chose Democratic Delegates to the Democratic National Convention Laura Shadle (1,517), Margie Swoboda (1,379), Braxton White (1,328) and Ezra Nanes (1,316). From the Republican side, delegates to the Republican National Convention are Fred Keller (2,332), Mark Harris (1,298), Joyce Haas (1,249), and David Rowe (1,072).

Voters also choose Daniel Clark (2,458) and Irene Harris (2,163) as Republican Alternate Delegates to the Republican National Convention.

Locally, Wards of the City of Lock Haven reported the lowest voter turnout in the county, between 13.98% (second ward) and 24.10% (fourth ward).

The highest voter turnout in the county goes to West Keating Township where 10 of the 21 registered voters came out to the polls, for a 47.62% voter turnout in the farthest western corner of the county.

Final votes from other counties are still being tabulated. All numbers above are based solely on Clinton County votes and do not reflect research done throughout the state.
