Words of Grace – March 5, 2015
God chooses the foolish ones of this world to confound the wise. He chooses the ones who are nothing in this world to bring to nothing those who think they are something.
Why is it that God chooses the foolish and the weak instead of the wise and mighty? The reason is: “That no flesh should glory in his presence” (First Corinthians 1:29).
It has been written about the famous evangelist, D.L. Moody, that he was “a nobody from nowhere with nothing.” He had only a fifth-grade education, his appearance was not impressive, and he spoke with a squeaky voice.
The story is told about a reporter who was given the assignment to follow Mr. Moody in his travels. He was instructed to write about what it was that made the evangelist so effective.
After a period of time spent watching and listening to the preacher, he wrote: “I find no human explanation as to why Mr. Moody is so effective among our leading intellectuals.”
When Moody heard about what had been written concerning him, he laughed and said, “of not, because it is not in Moody. It is in the Lord Jesus Christ.”
