PIAA AAA Championship Wrestling Final Rounds (Live Updates)

HERSHEY – The quest for a state title is in the hands of the one remaining Wildcat wrestler remaining in the 2015 PIAA AAA Wrestling Championship today at the Giant Center.

Geo Barzona (106) will receive a medal for his efforts today, it is just a matter of where he will stand on the podium at the end of the day. Barzona’s first challenge will be getting past Tyson Klump of Nazareth, the junior NE Region champion. If Barzona is succedssful in the semi final round … there is a good possibility for a three-peat matchup in the finals as a familiar face is on the opposite side of the bracket.

Altoona’s Cole Manley, who Barzona faced in both the District 6 and NW Region finals, could be his likely opponent in Hershey as well. Manley bested Barzona 4-0 at districts and then once again edged the Wildcat sophomore 1-0 at regionals. Manley must first get past SE Region runner-up, Aiden Burke of Council Rock North in order to face Barzona in the finals. There are many pieces of the puzzle that need to fall together for this scenario, rest assured, both D6 grapplers will do their best to make it happen.

Still in the mix in the championship bracket from our area is Noah Stewart (160), Mifflin County, will face Cody Cordes, Wyoming Valley West, the NE Region champ in the semi final round and DJ Hollingshead (170), Altoona, will need to get past Jake Shaffer of Greater Latrobe, the SW Region third place winner to make it to the finals.

Several more D4 and D6 wrestlers competing in the wrestle backs and will also receive medals by the end of the day. Still in action are: Roshaun Cooley (126), Williamsport, Brock Port (132), Bellefonte, Hayden Hidlay (145), Haydn Swartwood (152), Jersey Shore and Trey Heartsock, Mifflin County, are all still in contention for third place.

We will update with results after each match this morning. Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

Championship Semi Final Round

106 – Tyson Klump, Nazareth, dec. Geo Barzona, Central Mountain, 11-6. (Barzona will face Jakob Campbell, Boyertown in the consy semi final.) Cole Manley, Altoona, dec. Aiden Burke, Council Rock North, 4-3. (Manley will face Klump in the championship final.)

160 – Cody Cordes, Wyoming Valley West, dec. Noah Stewart, Mifflin County, 3-2 UTB. (Stewart will face Tony Palumbo, Pittsburgh Central Catholic in the consy semi finals)

170 – DJ Hollingshead, Altoona, dec. Jake Shaffer, Greater Latrobe, 5-3. (Hollingshead will face TeShan Campbell, Penn Hills, in the championship final.)

Consolation Quarter Final Round

126 – Ethan McCoy, Greater Latrobe, dec. Roshaun Cooley, Williamsport, 7-5. (Cooley will face Joe Blumer, Kiski Area, to wrestle for 7th place in the consy finals)

132 – Brock Port, Bellefonte, dec. Josh Ridgeway, Norwin, 4-3. (Port will face DJ Fehlman, Warren, in the consy semi final round)

145 – Hayden Hidlay, Mifflin County, James Saylor, Easton, 7-3. (Hidlay will face Chase Gallik, Wallenpaupack, in the consy semi final round)

152 – Kazim Bakhriyev, Scranton, dec. Hadyn Swartwood, Jersey Shore, 7-3. Swartwood will face Jarod Verkleeren, Belle Vernon, to wrestle for 7th place.)

195 – Matt Wagner, Delaware Valley, dec. Trey Hartsock, Mifflin County, 4-2. (Hartsock will face Eli Grape, Upper St. Clair, to wrestle for 7th place in the consy finals)

145 – Hayden Hidlay, Mifflin County, received a forfeit Chase Gallik, Wallenpaupack. (Hidlay will face Jarod Verkleeren, Belle Vernon, to wrestle for 3rd place in the consy finals.)
