It’s a sister thing for The Record All-Star girls’ 2024 team

By Bees O’Brien

CLINTON COUNTY- For the first time in the history of The Record, the sports staff has chosen their picks for the 2023-24 The Record All-Star team for both boys and girls basketball. Both Bucktail and Central Mountain had exciting seasons and we felt it was time to honor these tremendous student athletes by naming our own all-star teams. So, without further ado, I give you The Record 2023-24 All-Star selections for girls basketball.

Taylor Doyle, Central Mountain, Jr, SF/PF- Doyle led the Lady Wildcats in scoring at 10 ppg and proved to be deadly from beyond the arc. She also led CM in field goal percentage and was amongst the team leaders in steals, free throw percentage and three-point percentage. Only a junior, Doyle and a host of Lady Wildcats will return from their 2024 playoff team.

Mak Wagner, Bucktail, Sr, G- Wagner led the county in scoring and was second within the Mid Penn Conference in scoring, trailing only Millville’s Larissa Evans. Wagner was snubbed by the Mid Penn Conference all-star selections, but not by The Record. Wagner nearly hit the 1,000-point milestone despite missing most of her junior season. She also led the team in steals and assists. The senior wrapped up an incredible season, that seen the Lady Bucks finish fourth in District IV 1A.

Camdyn Weaver, Central Mountain, Fr, PG/SG- Weaver burst on the scene in 2023-24. She was third in scoring for the Lady Wildcats and second on the team in rebounds. Weaver’s breakthrough debut season would earn her the all-star spot and is the only freshman on this list. She will be one to watch for the next three seasons and reason why the Lady Wildcats will be highly regarded next season.

Matti Mason, Bucktail, Jr, G- Finding a tougher player in the county than Mason would be tough. Mason provided offense in Bucktail’s final two games against Meadowbrook Christian and Lourdes Regional by scoring 10 points in each game. Mason, an extraordinary ball handler for Bucktail was also their third leading scorer and no player took as many charges as Mason did in 2023-24.

Lena Walker, Central Mountain, Jr, PG/SG- Walker returned from a devestating knee injury in a big way. Walker finished second on the team in scoring with 9.2 points per contest. She also was amongst team leaders in assists, steals and was their top three-point shooter by percentage. Walker will also be returning next season for Central Mountain.

Kendall Wagner, Bucktail, So, F/C- Wagner plays the post just like she competes on the wrestling mat. Wagner led the Lady Bucks in rebounding and was their second leading scorer. Wagner complimented her sister Mak well with a dominant inside and outside game. Don’t let her inside toughness foul you, she can drive to the basket and bury threes with ease. The sophomore is just one of many talents returning next season for a Bucktail team that loses just 3 seniors.

Second Team

Eva Sockman, Bucktail, So, F- No player in the county played with as much intensity as Sockman did for Bucktail. She became a rebounding machine, making double figure rebounds a habit down the stretch. Sockman has two more seasons to work the glass for the Lady Bucks.

Ava Doyle, Central Mountain, Jr, SF/SG- Doyle joins her sister Taylor on this list and it was well deserved. Doyle finished amongst the leaders in rebounds, assists, field goal percentage, three-point percentage and led CM with 3 steals per contest.

Alexis Lowery, Bucktail, Sr, F- Lowery has been a consistent rebounder for the Lady Bucks tenure and will be greatly missed. She was also a key defender and amongst the team leaders in steals.

Keely Rohrbach, Central Mountain, Sr, C- Rohrbach is the only true center on this list and the team-leading 5.8 rebounds per contest and her 1.8 blocks per game were a good enough reason why she made this team. The senior leaves a big hole in the middle of Central Mountain’s offense and defense.

Lola English, Bucktail, So, PG- English’s season started out rough, but when the season came to an end she would see herself no longer a Bucktail reserve, but a starting Lady Buck. English was a lockdown defender for Bucktail, often getting the toughest assignments on opposing teams. The sophomore has two more varsity seasons to only improve and grow more as a player.

Macy Plowman, Central Mountain, Jr, PF/C- Plowman may be the one to fill the void left by Rohrbach’s departure. She was a key role player throughout the season and will be a critical part to the core of the Lady Wildcats next season.
