Monster second half powers LHU Men’s Basketball past Shippensburg

LOCK HAVEN – The regionally-ranked Lock Haven men’s basketball team trailed at the break, but erupted for 59 points in the second half to fly past Shippensburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) contest on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 25) inside Thomas Fieldhouse.

The regionally-ranked Bald Eagles improve to 18-7 overall and 16-4 in the PSAC, remaining in a tie for second place in the PSAC East.

Lock Haven controls its own destiny and can earn the top seed for the PSAC Championship Tournament by winning its final two games. As the top seed, Lock Haven would earn a first-round bye before hosting round to on Wednesday, March 6 at Thomas Fieldhouse.

The final game of the regular season is a showdown with the current No. 1 seed Millersville University.

The Bald Eagles also improve to an impressive 10-1 in front of the home crowd inside Thomas Fieldhouse.

The victory earns Lock Haven another season sweep over an Eastern opponent this season, while Shippensburg falls to 8-19 overall and 4-17 in the PSAC.

After trailing 33-30 coming out of halftime, the Bald Eagles erupted for a season-high 59 points on a scorching 66 percent (23-of-35) shooting from the field to soar to victory.

The 89 points scored in the game was a tie for the season lead for Lock Haven.

The Haven knocked down five of their seven three-pointers in the game in the second half, while nearly doubling their makes from the field (23-of-35). After shooting just 16 percent from three in the first half, the Bald Eagles knocked down 43 percent of their shots from deep.

Lock Haven led 56-28 in paint-points and 20-5 in fast-break points.

Dyson Harward (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) was the straw that stirred the drink for Lock Haven, as he finished with a near triple-double. The graduate senior scored 14 points, pulled in 14 rebounds and dished out a season-high seven assists. Harward added three blocks and a steal.

Justice Shoats (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Holy Redeemer) scored 20 or more points for the 14th time this season, finishing with 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists.

Isaiah Stewart (Madison, Wisc./Madison La Follette) finished with 13 points and a game-high six assists, while knocking down 3-of-5 shots from behind the arch.

Jalen Gorham (York, Pa./MacDuffie School) and Collin Jones (Lock Haven, Pa./Central Mountain) both added 13 points, while Bryson Scott (Dacula, Ga./Penfield) chipped in seven points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals.

Nine different Bald Eagles scored on the afternoon.
