LHU Men’s Wrestling drops MAC dual on the road at Rider

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. – The No. 22 Lock Haven men’s wrestling team fell to Rider (4-5, 4-0 MAC), 27-11, on the road tonight (Friday, Jan. 26) in Mid-American Conference (MAC) Eastern Division action.

No. 8 Anthony Noto (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) opened the dual with a victory, No. 13 Wyatt Henson (Waynesburg, Pa./Waynesburg) extended his win streak and Nick Stonecheck (Alpharetta, Ga./Buford) scored an-upset win at 149 pounds to lead the way for the Bald Eagles tonight.

Noto, a returning All-American improved to 12-1 with the win.

With the win, Henson extended his win streak to 26 matches and improved to 28-1 on the season with another tech fall. The tech was his 13th of the season, which is the third-most ever in a single-season for Lock Haven.

Stonecheck’s upset was powered by a furious surge late.

Noto opened the dual with a hard-fought 8-2 win over Tyler Klinsky at 125 pounds. Noto racked up well over two minutes of riding time and never looked back.

At 133, Richie Koehler edged out No. 29 Gable Strickland (Benton, Pa./Benton) 4-2 in sudden victory.

The Bald Eagles took an 11-3 lead behind back-to-back wins from Henson and Stonecheck as the front-end of the lineup continues to soar.

Henson once again put on a takedown clinic and needed just 4:21 to top Will Betancourt, 21-6 at 141.

At 149, Stoncheck scored the upset, downing No. 25 Quinn Kinner 8-5 in sudden victory. Trailing 5-2 late, Stonecheck tied the match with a takedown with just 10 seconds left in regulation. He carried the momentum into sudden victory and sealed the upset with a takedown.

Connor Eck (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) was downed by No. 24 Colton Washleski 12-8 at 157.

At 165, Eric Alderfer (Harleysville, Pa./Faith Christian Academy) surged and grinded out a strong third period, but Jake Silverstein held on for a 9-5 win.

Lock Haven won three of the first four bouts, but Rider won the final six bouts of the meet to remain perfect in MAC action.

With the loss, Lock Haven moves to 5-8 overall and 2-2 in the MAC. The Bald Eagles are 2-1 in MAC Eastern Division duals.

Yesterday (Thursday, Jan. 25), Lock Haven opened another busy stretch with a conference-win over George Mason at home. The Bald Eagles won eight of 10 bouts and powered their way to a 33-6 victory. The Haven will be right back at it on Sunday when the Bald Eagles host the Mat-Town Open II Tournament.
