Obituary – Shirley A. Probst

Shirley A. Probst, 87, of Lock Haven, passed away Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at Gatehouse Hospice at Divine Providence Hospital, Williamsport.

Born January 27, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Duck Schrack.

She was married to Billie Probst, with whom she shared 65 years of marriage with before his passing in 2019.

Shirley graduated from the former Mill Hall High School in June 1953. She went to work as a secretary and later worked at Boston Furniture. She worked for the Head Start Program while attending Lock Haven University. After graduation, she taught kindergarten at Beech Creek Elementary, retiring after 19 years of teaching.

Following retirement, Shirley went on church mission trips of which she enjoyed every aspect of, including the work, fellowship, travel and the memories.

Shirley enjoyed butterflies and hummingbirds. She also adored her cat, Buddy.

In addition to her husband, Billie, she was preceded in death by three sons, Allen, Franklin and Jeffrey; and a grandson, Joseph.

Shirley is survived by two daughters, Barbara and Lisa (Paul); a son, Stephen; 12 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Shirley belonged to Swissdale United Methodist Church, where she was very involved in many activities including teaching, superintendent, choir and events.

A memorial service for Shirley will be announced at a later date.
