Obituary – Lewis L. Summers, Sr.
Lewis L. Summers, Sr., 97, of Lock Haven passed away Thursday, December 21, 2023 at Eagle Ridge Personal Care Home, Mill Hall.
Born July 17, 1926 in Mill Hall, he was the son of the late Harry and Nola (Ludlow) Summers.
Lewis proudly served in the United States Navy Seabees during World War II, assigned to 39th Naval Construction Battalion on Saipan and later assigned to the 51st Naval Construction Battalion on Saipan. He earned the rank of Machinist’s Mate, Third Class and received the World War II Victory medal before being honorably discharged in 1946.
On June 1, 1946 at St. Agnes Catholic Church, he married the former Geraldine V. Ferrara, with whom he shared 71 years of marriage before her passing in 2017.
Throughout the years, Lewis worked at Penn Woven Wire Mill, North American Refractories and Queens Run Brick Yard before being employed at Piper Aircraft for 32 years, retiring in 1984. Lewis worked for Lock Haven Airplane until 1986.
Lewis was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, attending St. Agnes Catholic Church as well also an active member of the Glosue Carducci and Sons of Italy.
He was an avid woodworker, fisherman and hunter. He was a Boy Scoutmaster for St. Agnes troop 45 back in the late 1950.
He is survived by one son, Lewis L. (Sandra) Summers, Jr. of Lock Haven; three grandchildren: Lewis L. (Melanie) Summers, III of Hedgesville West Virginia, Laura (Andrew) McKenna of Killington Vermont and Robert Summers Jr; and three great grandchildren: Kathleen Summers and Ben and Liam McKenna.
Along with his parents and wife, Geraldine Summers, he was preceded in death by a son, Robert Summers and three sisters and three brothers.
The family would like to thank the staff of Eagle Ridge Personal Care Home for helping my Dad through his last year of life.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 5, 2023 at 11 A.M. at the Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington with Deacon Chip Young officiating. Burial with Military Rites will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Lock Haven.
Friends and family will be received at the funeral home on Friday from 10 A.M. until the time of the service.
Memorial contributions in Lewis’s name may be made to Eagle Ridge Personal Care Home through the funeral home.
