Obituary – Carolyn Burrows

Carolyn Burrows, 79, of Beech Creek was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
Born October 29, 1944 to the late Russell and Claire (Hutson) Tarkett, she grew up in Honesdale, graduating from Honesdale High School in 1962.

Carolyn continued her education at Penn State University, graduating in 1966 with her Bachelor of Science in chemistry.

On April 8, 1972 in Honesdale, she married her love, Wes Burrows, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage.
Carolyn taught high school chemistry in Pompton Lake, NJ from 1967-68 before completing her Masters of Education in Counselor Education from Penn State University in 1968. For the next school year, she served as the Guidance Counselor for the 6-8 graders at Bald Eagle-Nittany High School. From 1969-78, Carolyn served as a Guidance Counselor for the Keystone Central School District Elementary Schools. During this time, she started Keystone Central’s Elementary Guidance Program. In 1990, she was employed as a Middle School Guidance Counselor at Keystone Central, retiring in 2003 after 25 years of service.
She was a member of Faith Chapel United Methodist Church.

Carolyn was a member of Pennsylvania School Retirees’ Association as well as Delta Kappa Gamma.
She loved music, especially singing, playing the piano and participating in the Off-BEN-Avenue Follies. Carolyn was an avid reader and enjoyed line dancing as well as cheering on Penn State Men’s Basketball and the Atlanta Braves. Most cherished, though, was the time she spent with her family- whether supporting her children and grandchildren at various activities or planning family reunions.
