Williamson dethrones Bucktail at Galeton Tipoff 44-30
By Bees O’Brien
GALETON- For three straight years Bucktail’s Lady Bucks were the queens of the Galeton Tipoff Tournament. Williamson stand-out Taylor Rae Jones had seen the Lady Bucks hoist the championship banner for all of those wins. Bucktail had dropped the Lady Warriors and Jones in all of those title wins. On Saturday night enough was enough for Jones and her Lady Warriors.
Williamson would use a huge 15-4 second quarter advantage and a 20-point night from Jones to knock Bucktail from the ranks of the unbeatens 44-30 and claim the Galeton Tipoff championship.
It was a battle early. Williamson edged Bucktail 13-12 after one quarter, before the big second quarter advantage from the Lady Warriors.
3A Williamson (4-0) took their 28-16 halftime lead into the locker room, but head coach Suellen Wagner’s squad would battle back. Bucktail’s 10-3 surge in the third quarter slimmed Williamson’s lead to 31-26 heading into the fourth quarter.
Jones would once again take over in the fourth quarter by scoring 9 of Williamson’s 13 points in the frame, while Bucktail managed just 4 points to set the final score.
Kendall Wagner led Bucktail with 10 points. Dezlyn Halpate added 7 and Matti Mason scored 6.
It will be a quick turnaround for the Lady Bucks as they are set to hit the road on Monday to face Mid Penn rivals Montgomery (2-1, 1-0). Bucktail is set to return home on Saturday evening for another conference clash. Muncy (1-2) travels to Farwell for a varsity only meeting set to tipoff at 6pm.
