Lock Haven Un. to Host 23rd Annual Student Pottery Sale

LOCK HAVEN, PA-Art Professor Vance K. McCoy is hosting the 23rd Lock Haven University student and alumni pottery sale Thursday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the LHU Art Annex, 515 Railroad Street in Lock Haven. Student potters will greet and help the public throughout the sale. Proceeds from all items sold will be shared between the LHU student potters and a local non-profit H.E.L.P. 4 pets.

Two of McCoy’s former students will attend the sale. Todd Tabb graduated from Lock Haven University in 2004. Tabb has been working in ceramics for more than 16 years. His professional work began in 2006 when he started his own home studio under the name Wildfire Pottery. He has exhibited his work at national exhibitions and in late 2018, he partnered with another potter to open Hometown Potters’ Studio in Lewistown. In 2019, he became a teaching artist with the Arts in Education Program through the PA Council of the Arts and Perry County Council of the Arts. His work can be found at national and statewide art festivals in central PA. The recently expanded Hometown Potters’ Studio in Lewistown is hometownpotters.wixsite.com.

Lock Haven alumni Erin Dean Musselman graduated in 2014. She attended LHU and graduated with a teaching degree. While focusing on her major she fulfilled a general education credit; she took McCoy’s pottery class and her passion for pottery began. Today Musselman is now a full-time artist and ceramic business owner in Harrisburg. Musselman’s work is inspired by nature’s changing seasons, as well as the people around her. Musselman’s Lupine Ceramics company site is lupineceramics.com.

Professor McCoy’s pottery students are from almost every discipline offered at Commonwealth University. He stated, “At the beginning of every semester I’ll have students tell me some very familiar things like “I can’t draw”, or “I’ve never done anything like this before”, and after a week or so in I see them discover creativity and abilities they thought they could never experience. Arts in education, no matter what their graduation focus is, is a safe and shared way for all students to gain personal growth and inner confidence. I’m so proud of their accomplishments and I look forward to assisting them during their sale.”

A portion of all sale proceeds will be shared with Clinton County’s non-profit organization H.E.L.P. 4 Pets. H.E.L.P. provides interest-free Hardship Emergency Loans to pet owners for urgent treatment of their pets and supports the Clinton County Chessie Spay and Neuter Program. Parking for the LHU Art Annex building is located between the Student Recreation Center and the Willis Health Professions Building on Railroad Street. Cash or check only.
