Top-ranked LHU’s Anthony Noto competes at NWCA All-Star Classic
UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – No. 1 ranked (125 lbs.) Anthony Noto (Lima, N.Y./Honeoye Falls-Lima) of the nationally-ranked Lock Haven men’s wrestling team took on fourth-ranked Matt Ramos of Purdue tonight (Tuesday, Nov. 21) at the 2023 National Wrestling Coaches’ Association (NWCA) All-Star Classic in Penn State’s Rec Hall.
Ramos, last year’s NCAA national championship runner-up at 125 pounds, topped the Bald Eagle tonight in the exhibition event that featured some of the top men’s and women’s collegiate wrestlers in the nation.
Ramos downed Noto, 10-2 (major dec.).
After a scoreless first period, Noto trailed 3-2 after the two periods. Noto started the second down and earned a quick escape, but Ramos led 3-1 after a takedown. A second – Noto-escape pushed the score to 3-2 in favor of Ramos despite a furious scramble to end the period with Noto looking to score.
In the third period, Ramos scored a late takedown and added four near-fall points to earn the exhibition victory.
Last week (Nov. 14), Noto was named the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Wrestler of the Week after a perfect 2-0 start to the season.
Last season, Noto earned All-American honors after an impressive fourth-place showing at the NCAA Tournament. Following the 2022-23 campaign, the Bald Eagle was named the Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Year. Noto finished last season with a 34-4 record and became Lock Haven’s 44th Division I All-American.
After his 2-0 start this season, Noto is now 67-7 at The Haven.
Noto is the first Bald Eagle to compete at the All-Star Classic since current assistant coach Ronnie Perry represented Lock Haven in 2016.
The results of tonight’s exhibition do not count toward a wrestler’s season record.
