Wildcat boys’ soccer tops ‘Toona, 1-0; into District 6 finals
ALTOONA, PA – The Central Mountain boys’ soccer team proved its season-opening, Aug. 30 home field 1-0 win over Altoona was no fluke on Thursday night. Coach Billy Hook’s team traveled to the Mountain Lions’ home at Mansion Park and a late goal from Asher Talbot earned a 1-0 win for the visitors.
The victory gave the Wildcats a Monday berth in the District 6 Class 4A title game, the opponent top-seeded State College (12-1-4). The game will be played at Bald Eagle Area High School in Wingate with a 7:30 p.m. start time.
Talbot’s goal came with just 4:37 remaining and the Wildcats held off late Altoona attempts at tying things up. Talbot’s goal was assisted by Lincoln Breon. Central Mountain goalkeeper Luke Simcox was outstanding all night. The Wildcat senior, who also has been participating in preseason wrestling tournaments this fall (he’s a defending PIAA champion), protected the goal.
The Wildcats, the number three seed, moved to 10-6 with the win; it was their sixth straight win.. Altoona, the two seed, finished with a 12-5 mark.
