Obituary – Dr. Jon E. “Ric” Popovich
Dr. Jon E. “Ric” Popovich, 70, of Lamar passed away Monday, October 16, 2023 in Altoona.
Born January 22, 1953 in Pittsburgh, he was a son of the late John and Louise Shepard Popovich.
After completing his Law Degree at Duquesne University, Jon was employed by the Social Security Administration. He then attended Medical School at the University of Pennsylvania, becoming a Doctor of Internal Medicine.
Jon joined the United States Air Force, where he served as a Medic and earned the rank of Major.
He practiced at Clinton Medical Associates as well as Lock Haven Hospital before serving numerous Veterans through James E. Van Zandt Veterans Administration Medical Center, where he was employed until the time of his passing.
Jon was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, Lock Haven.
He enjoyed observing wildlife, stargazing and playing the piano.
Jon loved traveling and camping, especially when it involved family.
Surviving is his significant other, Cynthia McClain of Lamar; two brothers, Thomas Williams of Texas and Steve (Lisa) Popovich of Illinois; a niece, Kim (Jim) Cummings of Texas; a great nephew, Gary Klobchar and his two sons of Pittsburgh; and several cousins in North Carolina. He is also survived by his extended family whom he loved as his own: William C. (Amber) McClain and their daughter, Charleigh of Liberty and Jason D. McClain of Texas.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a niece, Debbie Siebel, in 2009.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 11 AM at Donald G. Walker Funeral Home, Inc., 231 High St., Flemington, PA 17745 with Rev. Father Joseph Orr officiating. A graveside service with Military Honors will follow at St. Agnes Cemetery, Lock Haven.
Memorial contributions in Jon’s name may be made to Holy Spirit Parish through the funeral home.
