Family of C. Grant Miller establishes charitable endowment with Foundation

Kind-hearted. Modest.Determined.

Those are the words used by the family of C. Grant Miller to describe their beloved father, who passed on June 17, 2023, after a distinguished business career spanning nearly 60 years.

In honor of Miller, his family – his wife, Jeanne; three sons (Bill, Bob and Doug); son-in-law; sister; grandchildren and great-grandchildren – have announced the establishment of a charitable endowment to the Clinton County Community Foundation Inc.

The C. Grant Miller Memorial Fund will help sustain Grant Miller’s legacy of giving back to his community.
Annual recipients of proceeds from the fund will include Salona United Church of Christ, Mill Hall Volunteer Fire Co., Lamar Township Volunteer Fire Co., and the Clinton County Fair, as per the family.

Miller greatly valued Clinton County, and when it came to life and to business, “he never threw in the towel,” said his son, Doug, referring, in part, to Grant’s early business endeavors, some of which were never easy.

Prior to his passing, Miller remained active with a company he founded in 1987, the Central Pennsylvania Auto Auction (CPAA).

Grant’s life revolved around people, cars and trucks, Doug said.

After graduating from Lock Haven High School in the early 1950s, he enlisted in the Army and served in Germany before his honorable discharge in 1956. He then worked a time for the U.S. Postal Service before joining the former Foy Spangler Ford dealership.

Grant was so passionate about automobiles that he launched his first business, Mor-Car Motors in 1964, before opening the Grant Miller Chrysler Plymouth dealership.

He served as President of the National Auto Auction Association and served on the Professional Licensing Board.

In 1987, he opened the Central Pennsylvania Auto Auction.

The auction business sits on 65 acres in Lamar Township, just off Route 220 and minutes from Interstate 80.

The Central Pa. Auto Auction is a reflection of Miller’s hard work, Doug said, “something he instilled in all of his children.”
