Ironman triathlon set for Centre, Clinton counties July 2

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Some 2,800 athletes from all across the US are to converge on Centre and Clinton counties Sunday, July 2 for a long-distance swim-bike-run race dubbed the Ironman 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley Triathlon.

First announced last fall, the event will start with a swim at Sayers Dam at Blanchard and finish with an extended run through Penn State’s University Park campus, culminating at Beaver Stadium.

Athletes will take on their race journey from a 1.2-mile swim in Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir at Bald Eagle State Park, a scenic but challenging 56-mile bike ride through the rolling hills of Centre and Clinton Counties (including a trek on Route 150 from Blanchard into Mill Hall, then south on Route 64 back to Centre County), culminating with a 13.1-mile run on the campus of Penn State University including the unique finish line experience for athletes inside Beaver Stadium.

The Clinton County Economic Partnership has also posted word on how local businesses have an opportunity to connect with athletes, families, volunteers and spectators with the event. Ironman host, the Happy Valley Adventure Bureau, has established an “I’M LOCAL” site where businesses can list discounts and other deals specifically geared toward people connected with the Ironman event.
