BEA, Bellefonte claim PIAA baseball titles

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA – Two neighboring Centre County baseball programs each struck gold at the PIAA state championships held Saturday at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park on the Penn State campus.

The AA title game, a District 6 rematch, between Bald Eagle Area (22-4) and Mt Union (24-3) saw the Eagles pile up an 11-0 five-inning win. It was the third win in three tries for BEA over their District 6 foe.

Later Saturday Bellefonte (20-5) toppled Dallas (18-8) by a 7-1 score in the AAAA championship game.

Interestingly, both Centre County schools lost their regular season games to Central Mountain High School (20-2). The Wildcats were knocked out in the first round of the PIAA Class 5A playoffs earlier in June.
