CM softball holds off Troy, 11-8
TROY, PA – The Central Mountain softball faced a hard hitting team from Troy Saturday and came away with a hard fought 11-8 victory.
In the top of the first inning, Katelyn Bowman led things off with a sharp double down the left field line and two batters later Gracie Saar drove in the first run of the game with a double of her own. Troy answered in the bottom of the first scoring five runs on two hits, two walks and an error by Central Mountain.
Central Mountain was unable to score in the second inning while Troy added an additional run to make the score 6-1 after two complete innings. Neither team scored in the third.
The Wildcats came to life in the top of the fourth inning when they scored seven runs on three hits including doubles by Madisyn Wian and Sophie Mitchell and a single by Taylor Wahlers. There were three walks issued to Wildcat batters and one hit by pitch. Troy failed to score in the bottom half of the inning leaving the score 8-6 in Central Mountain’s favor.
Troy would add one run in the fifth and one run in the sixth, both on solo home runs. Central Mountain added two runs in the fifth one in the seventh.
Madisyn Wian and Allison Lininger each had two doubles and Taylor Wahlers added 2 singles on the outing. Katelyn Bowman, Gracie Saar, Sophie Mitchell, Harley Kunes and Joslyn Schultz each had one hit.
Addie McKeague got the win in the circle pitching six innings and facing 26 batters. She allowed 3 runs on 7 hits while striking out 13 and allowing 1 walk.
Central Mountain, with its seventh win in a row, is now 8-2 on the year and will be back in action on Tuesday at Jersey Shore (5-4). Troy dropped to 3-4 with the loss.
