Wagner becomes Bucktail’s all-time hits leader in 21-0 win at CMVT

BLOOMSBURG, PA- Head coach Mike Poorman’s Bucktail Lady Bucks hit the road for a cross divisional Mid Penn Conference game with Columbia Montour Vo-Tech on Wednesday. Bucktail would not let their coach down, as they would pound out a season-high 22 hits and finish off the host Lady Rams 21-0 in 3 innings.
As one could imagine, the Bucktail stat box was flooded with all sorts of positive numbers, but Mak Wagner was in the spotlight on this afternoon. The Bucktail junior would set a new program record for most career hits following her three-hit game and eclipse standout all-state catcher Jordan Burrows’ 90 hits. Wagner’s new Lady Bucks record stands at 92 total career hits. The returning two-time all-state selection eclipsed the mark just 6 games into her junior season.
Wagner finished with a double, a pair of singles and 2 RBI’s.
Bucktail wasted very little time by seeing every player in their starting lineup reach base safely and score in the first inning. CMVT could not withstand the Bucktail assault. The Lady Bucks would eventually plate 12 runs in the first stanza.
The Lady Rams could not mount any offense. Wagner started the game in the circle and combined with Lola English and Makenna Stone to toss a three-inning no-hitter on the host squad.
Bucktail tacked on 6 runs in the second inning and 3 runs in the top of the third inning to set the final at 21-0. This was the most runs Bucktail had amassed in a single game this season.
10 different Lady Bucks collected hits during the game. Eva Sockman had another strong game by going 4 for 4 with 5 RBI’s. Haley Burrows would go 3 for 3 on the day, scoring all three times. Makenna Stone also would go 3 for 3 with 3 RBI’s. Lily Francis would pound in 6 RBI’s on a pair of hits. Kayla Probert and Matti Mason also picked up a pair of hits each for Bucktail. Lola English, Kendall Wagner and Cecelia Shaffer all collected a hit each as well.
The win jumped Bucktail to 4-2 on the season. CMVT fell to 0-9.
The Lady Bucks will hit the road on Friday to face Sullivan County. The Lady Griffins started 2023 at 4-0, but have lost their last three contests including an 8-7 decision on Wednesday to St. John Neumann. This will be Bucktail’s last tune up game before they head to Jersey Shore on Monday and meet the Lady Bulldogs in a battle between two of District 4’s premier programs.
