Johnston announces Keystone Central School Board reelection bid
PINE CREEK TOWNSHIP, PA – Jeff Johnston has announced his candidacy for reelection to the Keystone Central School Board from Region 4. This region consists of Dunnstable, Wayne and Pine Creek II Townships.
He is a Republican but is cross filed for the May 16 Primary Election meaning his name will appear on both the Republican and Democrat ballots. During his first term on the board he has been very active on the board’s many committees. He has served as Chairperson of the Facilities Committee as well as a member of the Policy, Personnel, and Curricular-Co Curricular Committees. He also is the district’s representative to the Central Intermediate Unit 10 Board. As chairperson of the district’s Facilities Committee for the past four years, he has worked closely with the committee members and district administration to oversee a number of major improvements in the district’s buildings. The highlight of these includes major renovation and energy improvement projects at Central Mountain Middle School, Robb Elementary and Bucktail High School. His release said these have greatly enhanced the educational experience for students and staff while also improving the energy efficiency of the schools.
He is a graduate of Clearfield Area High School, and the Penn State University where he earned a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and Masters degree in Educational Administration. He obtained his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from Bucknell University.
Mr. Johnston is a retired educator who served fourteen years as an elementary and middle school teacher in the Clearfield Area School District, before coming to Keystone Central where he worked as an elementary principal in several of the district’s buildings for eighteen years. From there he concluded his career serving as Superintendent of the Canton Area School District for four years.
He has served as a member of the Keystone Central Foundation, is the current Vice President of the Central Intermediate Unit (CIU) Board, is the Chairperson of the CIU Policy Committee and also serves on their Facilities and Finance Committees. He is active as a member of the Covenant United Methodist Church where he sings in the choir, serves as Financial Secretary, and also participates on the church council.
He states that he has greatly enjoyed his first term representing the residents of his region, is very proud of many great things the board has accomplished for the district over the past four years, and is excited about the positive direction in which the district is headed for the future. He would like to have the opportunity to continue using his background as a retired educational administrator and experienced board member to keep the district moving forward and to continue providing our students with top notch educational opportunities, in safe facilities, and in a fiscally responsible manner. Mr. Johnston resides in Pine Creek Township with his wife, Donna, and her mother.
