Sugar Valley RCS Dominates Bloomsburg on Senior Night, 60-12

By Tom Elling

LOGANTON, PA – Bloomsburg came limping into Loganton on Tuesday with four regulars out of the line-up because of various reasons (injuries, illness and discipline). The Panthers at 2-13 weren’t given much of a chance even if at full strength. Coach Matt Lukachinsky is trying to rebuild a once-proud Bloomsburg squad.

Meanwhile Coach Jason Bilbay and his staff have seen huge strides in the Phoenix program. It was senior night and the Valley had just four seniors to recognize: Gavin Hampton (133), Isaiah Conoway (145), David Allison (285) and Kyle Stahl (215).

The meet started at 127 and the forfeit to Jarren McCloskey set the tempo. Gavin Hampton and Cameron Quick followed with quick falls to give SVRCS an 18-0 lead. Isaiah Conoway and Malachi Gottschall were awarded forfeits and it was Katie, bar the door, SV widened the spread to 30-0.

Cayden Weaver (160) and Lincoln Breon (172) both gave up the initial takedown, but as if the action were scripted, both executed reversals and back points. Weaver continued the plot with a fall in 0:23 of the second period. Breon didn’t wait as long, securing his fall in 1:12. SVRCS led 42-zip.

At 189, Bloom finally cracked into the win column with their best wrestler Nick Wharton (a District 4 AA 4th placer last season) taking down Colten Etters and pressing his shoulders to the mat in 1:06.

Kyle Stahl nabbed win #16 via the forfeit route, moving the Phoenix ahead 48-6.

At 285 Levi Galentine fell behind quickly 5-1 after a period. His opponent chose down in the second period and Galentine quickly turned and pinned Graden Thomas in 2:12. Coach Bilbay noted that the coaching staff has been working hard with pinning combinations.

There was a no contest at 107 and the teams traded forfeits at 114 (Bloom’s Michael Ridall) and 121 (SV’s Wyatt Conoway) to set the final SVRCS 60, Bloomsburg 12.

The coaches had Ridall and Conoway wrestle in an extra bout with Conoway gaining a 19-2 (2:52) Tech Fall. David Allison got to make a mat appearance against Bloomsburg’s John Berger, but was pinned in his final appearance at the Loganton school.
