LH women’s basketball edged out by Millersville, 64-60
LOCK HAVEN, PA – The Lock Haven University women’s basketball team (7-9, 5-6 PSAC) was edged out 64-60 by visiting Millersville University (10-7, 5-6 PSAC) Saturday in a thrilling Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division clash.
The day marked Lock Haven’s annual Alumnae Day event as the Bald Eagles celebrated and honored many past greats and team successes.
Once again, Brooke Lawyer (Hanover, Pa./Delone Catholic) and Alana Robinson (Rockaway, N.J./Pope John Paul II) stood out for The Haven. Lawyer scored a game-high 20 points and Robinson finished with a game-high eight rebounds.
Lawyer added two steals to go along with another strong scoring push. Robinson finished with 12 points, three assists, one block, and one steal to go along with her eight boards, all of which came on the defensive end.
Jackie Fetsko (Marion Center, Pa./Marion Center) scored 13 points and pulled in five rebounds. Kylie Metzger (Roaring Spring, Pa./Central Martinsburg) added six points and five boards.
Millersville led 26-17 after the opening quarter, but Lock Haven dominated the second quarter by way of a 14-7 scoring advantage, and the Bald Eagles trailed by just two at the break, 33-31.
Both teams picked up the pace in the second half, and after an exciting, back-and-forth third quarter, Lock Haven held a slight 51-48 advantage.
The furious pace continued in the fourth and with just over four minutes to play, the game was tied. In the end, Millersville slipped out of Thomas Fieldhouse with the narrow, but important conference victory.
Marin Miller led Millersville with 14 points.
It will be a quick turnaround for Lock Haven as the Bald Eagles return to action Monday on the road at Slippery Rock for a 5:30 p.m. PSAC contest.
