County unemployment rate inches up

HARRISBURG, PA – Clinton County’s unemployment rate showed a slight increase for August 2022, according to information released this week by the state Department of Labor and Industry.

The August rate was 5.4% for Clinton County residents, compared to 4.8% in July 2022. One year ago in August 2021, the rate was 6.9%. The August 2022 local rate ranks 49th out of the state’s 67 counties. The state unemployment rate for August was 4.2%.

For the week ending Sept. 17, the state reported that 19 Clinton County residents filed for initial unemployment benefits. That number was 66 one year ago. In the continued unemployment claims column, there were 198 listed in the seven day period ending Sept. 17. One year ago, the continued claim number was 256 county residents.
