A century of Renovo history now boarded up
RENOVO, PA – A part of Renovo’s history now sits empty, waiting for the wrecking ball. The last family remaining in Renovo’s condemned 14th Street row houses moved out last week. Shortly thereafter a Renovo Borough crew moved in and boarded up access to the block-long building (former residents still have access to their garages at the rear of the structure).
A borough spokesperson said officials are working with the former tenants to complete the federally provided compensation process for those displaced, the dollar amount based on the value of their residences. Once that process is complete, federal grant money will be used to demolish the century-old structure.
This month’s activity is believed the final step in Renovo borough’s extended quest to evict the residents, the end of a three-year effort to empty the structure, much of which has been in a state of disrepair for some time. The building had first been posted as condemned in September of 2019.
