Optimist Roundtable

By Martha Sykes

Welcome to the happy news column!! So much bad and discouraging news out there these days , so I decided I would share the good things that have been happening in our community.

First of all, we finished up three different vacation Bible schools that happened this summer!! After having to cancel so many of them the past few years, it was so great to gather with little children and teach them all about Jesus!! The joy of sharing the love of Jesus with little hearts is indescribable. Looking forward already to next year!

Over this past weekend, the Knights of Columbus from St. Joseph’s Church held a cornhole tournament to raise money for their church ceiling that needs repaired. They had a great turn out and it was nice to see families together, laughing and having a good time as well as helping out the church. It was great to see so many people working together to make it a success. Hoping it will become an annual event!

On Saturday, the Crossroads Church from Jersey Shore held a block party for all ages in our community and it was very well attended. Kids were busy playing some great games, eating hot dogs, popcorn, sipping on snow cones, and collecting backpacks for school! Some of the children were very fortunate to win some nice prizes like bicycles also. It was a nice sight to see families having fun!! The most important part was sharing the love of Jesus with another community and it was so appreciated by our town.

Last, but not least, it has been amazing to see how so many people have been praying for Easton, the little league player from Utah. After a fall with a serious head injury, he is improving every day. It has been very heartwarming to see how his family shares his progress and the number of people, even in our little community, who have reached out with prayers and love for someone they just know from the news!!

There is good news out there, but the best news is that God is so good and the love of Jesus is being shared in so many ways!!
