Suicide awareness walk set for Sunday, July 24
WOODWARD TOWNSHIP, PA – Eagle Scout and mental health awareness advocate Ashton Peters will hold a third walk for suicide awareness in memory of Cimarron and Benjamin Thomas on Sunday, July 24 at Riverview Park.
Ashton’s goal for the walk is to bring community awareness to an increasing global problem. The walk is in memory of Cimarron Thomas, who lost her life a little over three years ago at the age of 12, and Benjamin Thomas, Cimarron’s father, who also passed by suicide a year after. Benjamin Thomas was a veteran and sergeant in the U.S Army.
Ashton works closely with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which is the nation’s largest non-profit dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, and 22-Too Many, an organization based out of Maryland that honors and remembers military members who have lost their lives to suicide or PTS at the rate of over 20 per day.
The public is encouraged to attend the July 24 event to bring awareness to suicide. Various vendors and organizations are taking part in the walk this year. Ashton has hopes of raising $5,000 for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention.
New for the 2022 walk, is a dunk tank. A silent auction will also be held. Special speakers, games, and music are included in this year’s walk. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. All money raised will be turned into an AFSP representative on the day of the walk.
T-Shirts for the event can be bought at Rachel K Creations or on the day of the walk.
