“Don Malinak” Day in Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, PA – Thursday is the 90th birthday for retired Lock Haven High School football coach Don Malinak and Lock Haven Mayor Joel Long has issued a proclamation designating the day as “Don Malinak Day.”

The proclamation was released earlier in the day by City Manager Greg Wilson and reads:

CITY OF LOCK HAVEN

Clinton County, Pennsylvania

A PROCLAMATION FROM THE MAYOR DECLARING

“DON MALINAK DAY”

IN THE CITY OF LOCK HAVEN

Whereas,       Don Malinak became head football coach at Lock Haven High School in 1957; and

Whereas,       Coach Malinak coached Lock Haven High School to 10 straight winning seasons including an undefeated season in 1961; and

Whereas,       Coach Malinak was named Coach of the Year in 1961 and 1976; and

Whereas,       Coach Malinak was elected to the PA Scholastic Football of Fame in 1991 and West Branch Chapter of the PSHOF in 2012; and

Whereas,       As stated in the 1985 Lock Haven Highschool yearbook, Coach Malinak produced many fine teams at Lock Haven High School over his 27 seasons as Head Coach compiling a record of 176 wins, 90 losses and 9 ties; and

Whereas,      Coach Malinak had a tremendous impact on countless students, players and the entire City of Lock Haven

Now, therefore, the Mayor of the City of Lock Haven hereby proclaims: Thursday, July 7, 2022 as Don Malinak Day and calls upon all former students and athletes of Lock Haven High School to celebrate all the glory and pride Coach Malinak brought to our school and our City.

Malinak lives in retirement in Flemington. The football stadium at Central Mountain High School was named in his honor earlier this century. He is a native of Steelton, PA and a graduate of Penn State where he served as captain of the football team.
