State College High School hosting regional school crisis training Workshop
STATE COLLEGE, PA – More than 100 counselors, social workers, administrators and other school staff members are gathering on Tuesday through Thursday of this week at State College Area High School to learn more about responding to school crises and managing the aftermaths.
Organized by the Central Intermediate Unit 10, the three-day workshop is bringing together individuals from the Moshannon Valley, Curwensville, Keystone Central, Bellefonte, Philipsburg, State College, Clearfield and West Branch districts, as well as the Clearfield County Career and Technology Center and the Central Intermediate Unit.
“Back in September, our district superintendents discussed wanting a training such as this,” said Jenna Witherite, the CIU 10 director of adult education and project development. “As an intermediate unit, we merged the needed request with a trainer who specializes in school crisis, trauma intervention and crisis prevention. This is a highly interactive, small-group learning experience. It definitely shows that our school personnel are taking action on being trained to handle a crisis not only when it happens, but afterwards as well.”
Cheri Lovre, of the Crisis Management Institute is leading the training.
