KCSD Career and Technology students achieve success
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP, PA – Keystone Central is proud to announce that many of its Career & Technology Center (CTC) students have tested competent or advanced on their National Occupational Competency Test (NOCTI).
NOCTI tests are developed by teams of subject matter experts to meet industry standards and requirements and result in credentials measuring skills and competencies critical for student success outside the classroom. CTC Director, Kurt Lynch, proudly notes that NOCTI scores in the district have risen two consecutive years after a year of no testing due to Covid-19.
The NOCTI tests are given at the students’ school with individuals from local business and industry evaluating student performance. These tests provide students the opportunity to demonstrate they have acquired the technical skills needed for entry-level employment and post-secondary education.
There are two specific certificates awarded to students for successful completion of the NOCTI exam. When students have shown advanced skill in their technical programs, students receive the Pennsylvania Skills Certificate; and when students show competent skill level, students then receive a Certificate of Competency. To earn the certificate, students must achieve the advanced level on a NOCTI or other Pennsylvania Department of Education approved test. These tests consist of two parts, the first being multiple choice which covers factual knowledge, technical information, and the understanding of academic principles and problem-solving skills related to a technical field. Second is the performance test which allows students to demonstrate that they have the skills required to do a particular job.
