Clinton County unemployment rate inches up

HARRISBURG, PA – Clinton County registered a slight increase in its unemployment numbers during the month of August, according to information released this week by the state Department of Labor & Industry.

The August rate was 6.7%, up from the 6.3% reading in July. There were an estimated 1,200 county residents out of work during the month, as compared to 1,100 in July. One year ago, the August unemployment rate for Clinton County was 8.7%. An estimated 1,500 county residents were out of work in August 2020.

Out of the Commonwealth’s 67 counties, Clinton ranked no. 36 with its 6.7% reading in August. Centre County was no. 8 at 5.1%, and Lycoming County was tied for no. 30 at 6.5%. Chester had the lowest unemployment reading in the state during the month at 4.3%, and Forest County was the highest at 9.0%.

The September unemployment data should be released by state officials on or about Oct. 26.
