DEP Announces Natural Gas Vehicle Workshop

depWILLIAMSPORT – The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), along with partners at Eastern Pennsylvania Alliance for Clean Transportation (EP-ACT), invites fleet managers, municipalities and business owners to a natural gas vehicle workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at DEP’s Northcentral Regional Office, 208 W. 3rd St., Williamsport.

Workshop attendees will hear from industry experts how natural gas is helping Pennsylvania move away from imported petroleum fuels to this homegrown, cleaner-burning, affordable alternative.

DEP staff will also provide information on the financial incentives available to help make the switch to compressed natural gas (CNG) or liquefied natural gas (LNG) through the agency’s Act 13 Natural Gas Vehicle Program.

There is no charge for this workshop, and lunch will be provided. Seating is limited and registration is required.

The Act 13 Natural Gas Vehicles Program is funded by impact fees paid by natural gas operators. Act 13 authorized DEP to develop and implement the Natural Gas Energy Development program, offering $20 million in grants over three years.

The third round of this program will offer an estimated $6 million to help pay for the incremental purchase and conversion costs of heavy-duty natural gas fleet vehicles.
Grant applications are due Nov. 14 and grants will be awarded this winter.

EP-ACT, formerly the Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Program, has been assisting fleets with their transition to alternative fuels for more than 20 years. The organization now assists fleets and municipalities work to displace petroleum in central and eastern Pennsylvania.
