Ida is gone; Regatta boaters moving in

Regatta regulars checked in as early as Tuesday, boaters from Michigan, Maryland and New Jersey at the Woodward Township boat launch parking area.

LOCKPORT, PA – Officials with the Lock Haven Area Jaycees are optimistic that their 50th annual Regatta should be good to go this weekend. The last bit of rain fell over Lock Haven Wednesday evening and clear skies are moving in.

There had been concerns that the Susquehanna River might become too high for racing, but a Jaycee spokesman told therecord-online with the remnants of Hurricane Ida going further south than original projections, the West Branch should be manageable for the three days of powerboat races to begin on Saturday. He said the river is to crest Thursday night around 10feet, about two feet above its normal level; coupled with great weather in the forecast, he said, “We are fine.”

Boaters began arriving in Lock Haven on Tuesday and some made it onto the river then, but with rain falling Wednesday, the early arrivals did not take to the water.
