Clinton Major Softball wins opener, 8-0, over Loyalsock
WILLIAMSPORT, PA – Little League all-star action returned to central Pennsylvania Thursday evening for the first time in two years. And the Clinton Major softball team, in the first game played in the area, picked up a solid first-round win by an 8-0 margin over Loyalsock, the contest played at the Old Lycoming Little League Field.
Clinton pitcher Camdyn Weaver was dominant from the get-go in tossing a complete game, 6-inning 2-hitter. Weaver retired the first 10 ‘Sock batters she faced, then gave up fourth and fifth inning singles. She struck out 12 overall and issued no walks.
Weaver was backed by a 9-hit Clinton attack. Clinton got on the scoreboard first, using a Maegyn Franquet double, an Aubrey Eiler double and a Weaver triple to push across two runs. They added two more in the fourth, highlighted by an Emily Motter single and Franquet’s second double. Three runs came across in the fifth, Clinton taking advantage of three walks, a Loyalsock error and a triple from Eiler. The final run came in the sixth, off a single from Franquet, a walk and a double from Cheyenne Weaver.
Eiler finished with a single, double and triple; Franquet with two doubles and a single. Other hits were Camdyn Weaver’s triple, Motter’s single and Cheyenne Weaver’s double.
With the win Clinton moves into the District 12 winners’ bracket final scheduled for Monday, June 28 at 5:45 p.m. at the Woolrich field. The opponent will be the winner of a Friday game between Williamsport Area and Jersey Shore, game time 5:45 p.m. at the Woolrich field.
