Local sub shops scramble; Lycoming Bakery shuts down
LOCK HAVEN, PA – Sub shops and restaurants in the Williamsport – Lock Haven area and well beyond are scrambling Tuesday to find replacement hoagie rolls after longtime supplier Lycoming Bakery locked its doors Monday night.
Don Powers, owner of the Old Corner in Lock Haven, said his business is part of the scramble and is getting by as best it can short term to continue to make subs part of the business menu. He said affected local eating establishments are working together to try and find a permanent replacement to service area businesses. He said an approach is being made to a bakery in Altoona. One affected Williamsport business spokesperson said she’d be driving to Berwick for replacement rolls.
The South Williamsport bakery’s doors were locked Monday night, this message posted on the business’s answering machine: “We are truly sorry. Due to labor issues we could not provide advance notice of this decision.”
The bakery had served central Pennsylvania since 1927, delivering to multiple food providers in that time.
