New unemployment claims info released
HARRISBURG, PA – New unemployment information recently released by the state shows some improvement in the Clinton County unemployment numbers.
According to the state Labor & Industry, Clinton County had 56 people file for initial unemployment insurance benefits for the week ending March 13. That number is down from 69 listed for the prior week. Two-thirds of the new filers were male, and 27% of them were in the construction field. Continued claims dropped by approximately 250 to 994. A majority was males, and the construction sector accounted for 23% of the continued claims.
The county continued to see a rise in residents who have had their benefits expire. In the week ending March 13, 28 residents exhausted benefits. Since the beginning of the year, 344 county residents have had their benefits expire.
Clinton County’s unemployment rate for January was 7.3%, the first time in eight months that the rate increased. The pandemic high was 16.6% in April 2020.
