New 911 emergency text program available in Clinton County

FLEMINGTON, PA – Clinton County has joined counties across the state to provide an emergency 911 text option to get in touch with the appropriate personnel in the event of an emergency.

A flier explaining the new option was posted on social media by the Clinton County Department of Emergency Services on Monday.

As it states, “The best way to get help in an emergency is to CALL 9-1-1. But did you know that if you are in a situation where you can’t talk or are unable to talk you can also send a text message to 9-1-1 in Clinton County? Texting 9-1-1 is a slower and less efficient way to contact emergency services but could be a lifesaving option if you can’t safely make a normal voice call.”

Emergency Services director Andrew Kremser said the text option provides an advantage in circumstances where the party is in an abusive relationship and can’t make a phone call, or in the case of a break-in and unable to speak out loud.

Kremser called the text option an additional tool to contact the county com center in the case of an emergency.
