County Unemployment Claims Reverse Course, Going Wrong Way
HARRISBURG, PA – The initial and continued unemployment claims by Clinton County workers increased sharply between Oct. 31 and Nov. 7, according to information provided Friday by the Department of Labor & Industry.
For the week ending Nov. 7, there were 81 initial claims, the highest number in the county in almost two months. That number includes 65% who are male and 21% in the transportation and warehousing sector. For the week ending Oct. 31, there were 61 new claims.
The continued claims shot up dramatically, with 928 listed. That compares to 546 the week before. The 928 figure is the highest continued unemployment claim number in the county since early October. Of the 928, 53% were female and 18% are in the manufacturing field.
The October unemployment rate for the Commonwealth’s 67 counties is expected to be released at the end of November. The September rate in Clinton County was 7.4%.
