GOP Treasurer Candidate Touts Business, Military Experience in Clinton County Stop
LOCK HAVEN – Stacy Garrity, Republican candidate for state Treasurer, made a couple campaign stops in Clinton County on Wednesday, including a visit to the annual Clinton County Economic Partnership picnic.
In a sit-down with therecord-online, Garrity touted her rise through the ranks at Global Tungsten & Powders Corporation in Towanda where, in 33 years, she rose from a position in finance to become the firm’s first female vice-president. She also cited 30 years in the Army Reserve, which included three deployments in Iraq. She retired with the rank of colonel.
Garrity said all current Pennsylvania row office holders are Democrats, as is Gov. Tom Wolf. She said those row officers use their positions as a platform to run for something else and don’t go against the governor. She said she will be a watchdog if elected.
She charged the Wolf administration with a lack of transparency and said the state’s last fiscal year ended with a deficit of $900 million. Garrity said funds had been provided for an upgrade to the state’s unemployment system but the work was not carried out and charged the system is broken. She said one of her political consultants received $5,680 in two unemployment checks in one week while at work in May.
Democrat Joe Torsella is the incumbent state Treasurer. Asked how she will get her message out in a crowded presidential election year, she said she will be “very active on social media and tying to the coat-tails of the Trump Victory Team.” Garrity noted as a resident of rural Bradford County, it is difficult to fundraise, especially for someone who has not run for office before, this during a pandemic. She said, “It’s challenging but we’re doing okay.” She said there will be increased digital and television use as Nov. 3 approaches.
