Words of Grace – August 14, 2014

WordsOfGraceJesus told the story about a man who sowed good seed in a field. While he was sleeping, someone came and sowed bad seed among the good seed.

When the plants began to grow, it became evident what had happened. “An enemy hath done this,” the man said to his servants.

Later, when Jesus explained to the disciples the meaning of the story, we learn that the man who sowed “the good seed” is Jesus. “The enemy,” Jesus said, “is the devil.”

The field where the seed was sown “is the world.” The Lord Jesus is at work in the world today, and so is the devil. Jesus has his children in the world, and so does the devil.

According to John 10:10, the work of the enemy is three-fold. The devil comes “to steal, and to kill, and to destroy,.” On the other hand, Jesus said, “I have come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

After Jesus had invited the multitudes to come to him that they might receive eternal life, many refused to come. To those he sadly lamented, “And ye will not come to me that ye might have life.”

While Jesus is still calling the lost to come unto him, the enemy is doing his work to keep them from coming to the Savior. Don’t let the enemy hinder you any longer.
