Harry Lee Rankin – Obituary

ObitArtSUMMERFIELD – Harry Lee Rankin, 71, of Summerfield, FL passed away July 29, 2014 with his loving wife by his side.

Lee, as he was known to his family and friends, is survived by his wife of 26 years Alice, sons: Lee Rankin of Corning, NY and Eric Rankin of Gainesville, GA, granddaughters: Lia and Maia Rankin, stepchildren: Carle Pronti of Elmira, NY, Patricia Padro of Ocala, FL, and David Mejia of Belleview, FL. He was predeceased by father Harry Rankin of N. Bend, PA and stepson John Mejia of Belleview, FL.

Lee was born on May 9, 1943 to Harry and Violet Rankin in Renovo, PA. Lee graduated from Renovo High School in 1961. He then enlisted in the United States Army. After basic training in Fort Jackson, SC, Lee transferred to Verdun, France in July 1962. He served with the 61st military police company. In January 1964, Lee transferred to the 10th Special Forces Group in Bad Tolz, Germany, where he wore the prestigious Green Beret, until he was honorably discharged in December 1964.

Lee pursued a career in education, receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Lock Haven State College and a Masters from Elmira College. Lee spent most of his career as a high school teacher in Addison, NY (1969-1998). His many interests included singing and playing guitar.

Upon retirement, he moved to Summerfield, FL. He continued his love of music, singing and recording songs in his home studio.

Lee was a loving son, father husband, grandfather and friend. His humor, wit, courage and integrity will be missed. Memorial contributions may be made in his honor to the Lymphoma Society.
