Cy Probst Commits to Maine for Baseball
BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Central Mountain High School baseball player Cy Probst has made his college decision. The Wildcat catcher took to social media Thursday to announce he will play his college ball at Division I Maine in Orona, Maine.
The Central Mountain junior posted:
“I am extremely blessed and excited to announce my commitment to the University of Maine to continue my baseball and academic career. I want to thank all of my teammates, coaches and family for pushing me and helping me get to the level of play I have dreamed of playing since I was young. I would also like to thank Coach Derba and the rest of the coaching staff at UMaine for giving me this amazing opportunity.”
Probst as a sophomore catcher was a key part of a Central Mountain team which won the District 6 title a year ago. This, his junior year, was stopped before it started by the coronavirus in March.
Probst’s high school coach, Mike Kramer, had good things to say about his player’s decision: “I am very happy for Cy on his recent commitment to the University of Maine. Maine is getting a quality player and a very good person, Kramer shared, “Cy works extremely hard every day on all aspects of his game as well as committing to improving his strength, mobility, and agility.”
“Cy is a student of the game and he takes pride in being the field general. Cy can now play next season with no concerns of where he will be spending his years after high school. Committing now is great for him,” Kramer added.
Catching will continue to be a part of the Probst development. Kramer was a standout catcher in high school and at Lock Haven University and Nick Derba, the Black Bears manager, also was an outstanding college catcher, earning all-conference honors for three years at Manhattan College. Derba spent six years in the St. Louis Cardinals farm system.
Probst becomes the third member of what would have been this spring’s Wildcat team to commit to Division I baseball. Senior pitcher Zane Probst is headed to Seton Hall in New Jersey and junior infielder Aidan Major has committed to West Virginia University.
