New Turf Looked at for Central Mountain’s Malinak Stadium

BALD EAGLE TOWNSHIP – Central Moutain’s Malinak Stadium may have a new turf before the fall sports season commences.
Keystone Central School District Supervisor of Property Services, Rob Pacella, told a school board work session Thursday night the district administration is recommending Keystone Sports Construction of Exton, PA. He said Keystone and two other prospective contractors provided similar quotations, but Pacella said the district received “good feedback” on Keystone’s performance elsewhere, including a new artificial turf field at Midd-West High School.
Pacella said Keystone submitted a quote of $423,321 and with necessary maintenance equipment, the price tag would be around $463,000. He said the new turf comes with a 10-year warranty and has a thickness of 2 ¼”. The present Malinak turf has passed its estimated life span and district officials have raised safety concerns about its continued use.
Superintendent Jacquelyn Martin said with an anticipated board approval at its May 14 meeting, the new surface should be down in time for a planned belated August commencement ceremony for this spring’s graduating seniors.
Pacella reported on a number of other proposed improvements for board approval next week, including an upgrade to the grass fields at Bucktail and Central Mountain High Schools and new windows and new roof sections at Central Mountain Middle School.
