Tiger Den Playground Marks Reopening

LOCK HAVEN – The Tiger Den playground off W. Bald Eagle St. in Lock Haven marked its reopening with an informal rededication on Saturday.

Representatives from the Keystone Central School District and the City of Lock Haven were present for the event. They included city council vice-president Joel Long who emphasized the facility is for the entire community. Long had been part of the community effort to create Tiger Den in 2006. The playground has served the students at nearby Dickey Elementary School since its inception but the school district a decade ago locked it up during non-school hours, citing concerns about vandalism. The park was reopened to area youth earlier this summer.

Long said, “It takes everybody to keep it nice.” He said some sprucing up is in the offing and said the committee responsible for the Tiger Den upkeep welcomes any volunteers from the community.

School board president Boise “Bo” Miller thanked the Tiger Den committee for creation of what he called a “park built by the community for the community.” Miller thanked the district’s new superintendent, Jacquelyn Martin, for her role in the park’s public reopening. Martin said, “Anytime the district can partner with a community effort (such as this) is a positive.”
