Clinton Edged by Mifflinburg, 2-1 in Classic Pitching Duel
LOCK HAVEN – The Clinton 8-10 Softball All-Stars hit a slight snag in their quest for a Section 3 title, falling to a stingy Mifflinburg team in the winner’s bracket final tonight at Clinton Field.
The game was a classic pitching duel with Mifflinburg’s Taylor Stewart and Clinton’s Eva Sockman duking it out in the circle allowing only two hits each for the entire game.
Stewart kept Clinton in check most of the game with 15 strikeouts and no walks. Sockman also stood tall in the circle today for Clinton with no walks, striking out 7 Mifflinburg batters.
Mifflinburg used their only 2 hits of the game to earn a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning then hung on for the remaining four innings to edge Clinton 2-1.
Clinton had 2 hits as well including a base hit by Cheyenne Weaver in the top of the second inning but the effort stalled after that. Then in the top of the fourth inning, Camdyn Weaver reached base on a Mifflinburg error. Eva Sockman followed on with a base hit that set the wheels in motion for Weaver to cross the plate for Clinton’s only score of the game.
The loss drops Clinton into the bottom bracket and will face Towanda, Saturday, July 13 at 2p.m. Towanda fell to Mifflinburg 11-0 on Thursday.
