New Salt Shed Heralds City Garage Relocation
LOCK HAVEN – A New York firm is completing installation of a new city salt shed, part of the relocation of the city’s Walnut Street garage to the former PennDOT maintenance facility along Second Avenue in the city’s hill district.
The mammoth salt shed is being installed by Lane Construction of Clyde, NY, the lowest bidder at $205,620. City manager Greg Wilson said construction should be completed in a couple of weeks. Afterwards paving the inside will be completed, work the manager said should be less than $20,000.
Meanwhile city Department of Public Works employees are renovating the interior office and restroom spaces at the Second Avenue garage. Wilson said, “They are working tirelessly to complete the interior renovations on top of their regular responsibilities.”
The city hopes to have the relocation completed by the end of May. The existing site along Walnut Street will be put up for sale for return to the tax rolls.
